OSS: Cloudflare Audit Watcher

In environments where domains and DNS infrastructures are managed via Cloudflare, tracking configuration changes poses a significant operational risk—especially in multi-user and distributed teams. Unauthorized changes, misconfigurations, or insufficient audit processes can lead to service disruptions, security vulnerabilities, and lack of traceability.

To address this problem, Cloudflare Audit Watcher was developed as an automation tool that monitors, analyzes, and reacts to Cloudflare audit logs.

Technically, the project:

  • Is developed to run on Node.js runtime
  • Fetches audit log data using the Cloudflare API
  • Filters defined events to produce meaningful insights
  • Provides a scriptable and automation-friendly structure
  • Is suitable for CI/CD and cron-based executions with its stateless architecture

With this tool:

  • Changes made on Cloudflare can be centrally monitored
  • Critical events (DNS changes, rule updates, etc.) can be detected
  • Security and operations teams can take proactive actions
  • Audit processes are standardized

Thanks to its CLI / script-based approach:

  • It can be executed as a scheduled job (cron)
  • It can be integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • It can provide data to monitoring & alerting systems

Project architecture:

  • API client layer (Cloudflare API integration)
  • Event processing layer (filtering and parsing)
  • Output/notification layer (logging, integrations, etc.)

This approach aims to address critical needs such as “continuous monitoring” and “auditability” in modern DevOps practices.

With this project:

  • Visibility of Cloudflare changes has been improved
  • Early detection of unauthorized or incorrect operations is enabled
  • Operational risks are minimized
  • Infrastructure management becomes more transparent and auditable
